This February We're Going on a Binge

We’re full swing into Black History Month and that means you don’t have to look far to access educational material, historical facts, etc. about Black HIstory.

With that in mind, here at Tusome Books we’ll focus on just one book - although we’re proposing a serious binge of everything related to the story. You know the story -it’s been in the media a lot these past many months. We’re talking about none other than The Color Purple by Alice Walker.

The Color Purple was first published in 1983 and two years later the first movie based on the book was released. In 2005 the novel was made into a musical with a Broadway revival coming out 10 years later. At the end of 2023 another new The Color Purple movie was released.

Here’s what we are proposing. This February read The Color Purple, and watch both the 1985 and 2023 movies -and the 2005 and 2015 musicals if you can find them. There’s also a behind-the-scenes featuring Oprah Winfrey, tha cast of the 2023 and it’s director that’s such fun to watch -after watching the movie.
