Asian Heritage Month: Three Books to Check Out
It is Asian Heritage Month, and I would like to honor and celebrate our Asian friends, as we continue to learn more about their rich and diverse cultures and history.
I thought I would highlight just three of the many books by Asian authors and/or those that incorporate Asia through setting, cultural exploration, tourism, etc. represented at Tusome Books.
The Bandit Queen by Parini Shrroff
What better way is there to start to read intentionally than through humour? -dark humour at that! Parini Shroff will take you in and keep you hooked from start to finish in her razor-sharp debut with clever criminals, second chances, and wry and witty women.
Tell Me Pleasant Things About Immortality by Lindsay Wong
Lindsay Wong has managed to cook up a delicious blend of horror, the supernatural, and mythology in her collection of short stories Tell Me Pleasant Things about Immortality. It is a collection about transformation and what makes us human.
We Were Dreamers by Simu Liu
If you’re anything like me, you probably low key have a crush on Simu Liu (or maybe you know someone who does). Well then, this memoir is your chance to spend some quality time with the author as he chronicles his family’s journey from China to the bright lights of Hollywood with razor-sharp wit and humour.
Obviously these three books only cover a few perspectives so explore the bookstore for more selections and cast your net even wider. Feel free to send us your ideas and thoughts, and let me know in the comments if you’ve read any of the books I’ve highlighted here!
Cheers.
